Talent

I recently met a young woman who could speak full sentences before she was a year old and was voraciously reading 4th grade level books in kindergarten. This is definitely not something the average writer has as a fact in their back pocket. Most of us learn to talk and read at a more regular pace, I would think.

Meanwhile, I recognize (and sometimes gloat a bit, I confess) that I am a naturally good writer. I’ve always written well. I’ve always sensed the flow of words in sound and in story to some extent.

I realized, that though as writers we all need to practice and improve our whole lives, each of us has our strong points as well. How they will appear in our works is a mystery, something to look forward to!
